Auburn Game Day Transportation From Birmingham
Auburn is about 110 miles from Birmingham — roughly two hours on a normal day, and noticeably longer on a game day when 90,000 people are converging on a town of 80,000. Parking near Jordan-Hare runs about $45 if you find it. A private Sprinter charter drops your group downtown, waits through the game, and takes you home whenever you're ready.
Every Birmingham group that drives to Auburn learns the same three lessons in the same order. The drive is fine. The last four miles are not. And whoever volunteered to drive is going to spend the entire fourth quarter thinking about the parking lot instead of the game.
There is a version of this day where none of that is your problem.
Auburn's 2026 home schedule
Six games at Jordan-Hare this season:
| Date | Opponent |
|---|---|
| Saturday, September 12 | Southern Miss |
| Saturday, September 19 | Florida |
| Saturday, September 26 | Vanderbilt |
| Saturday, October 24 | LSU |
| Saturday, November 7 | Arkansas |
| Saturday, November 21 | Samford |
The Iron Bowl is November 28 at Bryant-Denny this year, so Auburn's marquee home date is LSU on October 24. Kickoff times are assigned closer to game week — SEC flex scheduling means a noon kick and a 6:30 kick are the same ticket until about two weeks out, which is worth knowing when you book. We build the day around whatever time gets announced.
Getting there: the honest version of the drive
Two routes, and Birmingham people argue about them.
US-280 southeast is the direct shot — about 110 miles, and on paper the faster one. In practice you're threading traffic lights through Sylacauga and Alexander City, and 280 out of Birmingham on a Saturday morning has its own reputation.
I-20 East to I-85 South through Opelika is longer in miles and usually calmer, and it puts you at Exit 58 near Tiger Town, which is where a lot of people park and shuttle in.
Either way, budget two hours of driving and add an hour of buffer on top for a Saturday. If it's a noon kickoff, that means leaving Birmingham around 7:30 in the morning. Nobody enjoys that drive at 7:30 a.m. Somebody has to do it.
What parking actually costs you at Auburn
Auburn is a genuinely great game day town and a genuinely difficult parking town, because campus and downtown are the same place and both fill up.
Close-in stadium parking runs around $45 when you can get it. Downtown lots go for $25 to $30 and put you within a short walk. Free lots exist — Hayfields, Community Gardens, Research Park — and they are first-come, first-served, which on an SEC Saturday means gone. Tiger Transit runs free game day shuttles starting about four hours before kickoff, and the Tiger Town shopping center at I-85 Exit 58 is a common park-and-ride.
All of that is workable. It's just a lot of decisions to make at 10 a.m. with nine people in two cars trying to stay together.
Why a private van beats a seat on a bus
There are shared coaches that run Birmingham to Auburn on game days, and if you're two people watching your budget, that's a reasonable way to go. It is a different product from this one.
The van is your group only. Ten people, one vehicle, nobody's cousin from a different tailgate. What gets said in the van stays in the van.
Your schedule, not a departure time. This is the real difference. A shared bus leaves when it leaves. If Auburn wins and the oaks at Toomer's Corner get rolled, that is the best twenty minutes of the entire day, and you should not be jogging away from it to catch a 7:15 departure. Your driver waits.
No designated driver. Somebody in your group was going to lose that argument. Now nobody has to have it.
The tailgate starts in Birmingham. Two hours each way in a van with Wi-Fi, TVs, a fridge and microwave, reclining leather seats, and outdoor speakers you can run at the tailgate. That's four hours of the day that stop being commute and start being part of it.
There's a restroom on board. Two hours out, a full day of tailgating, two hours back. On an Auburn run this is not a luxury feature, it's infrastructure.
What it costs
Van Go Luxe runs a 2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter seating up to 10 — reclining leather, dual climate, Wi-Fi, TVs, fridge and microwave, outdoor speakers, private onboard restroom, charging at every seat.
Chauffeured — $200/hour, four-hour minimum. An Auburn Saturday is realistically a 12- to 14-hour day depending on kickoff: pickup in Birmingham, two hours down, the driver stages nearby through the tailgate and the game, then home after. Split ten ways it lands in the neighborhood of stadium parking plus gas plus what a designated driver's evening is worth — except everyone actually enjoys it.
Book earlier than you think
There is one van. Six Auburn home dates, seven Alabama home dates, and a Birmingham wedding season all landing on the same Saturdays between September and November. October 24 is already booked. The other five Auburn dates are open as of this writing and will not stay that way through October.
Four to six weeks out is comfortable. Game week is a long shot.
A few Auburn-specific notes worth having
Tiger Walk happens about two hours before kickoff, when the team walks down Donahue Drive through the crowd. If your group has never seen it, build the day around it rather than around kickoff — it's the thing people remember. The gates along Donahue are also the easiest way into the stadium right afterward.
Toomer's Corner is the College Street and Magnolia Avenue intersection where the oaks get rolled with toilet paper after every Auburn win. Grab lemonade at Toomer's Drugs while you're there.
Where we pick up: most groups stage from one address in Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia or Hoover, which is cleanest. Multi-stop pickups downtown or through the Highlands add a few minutes and beat three cars trying to rendezvous at 7 a.m.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Auburn from Birmingham?
About 110 miles, roughly two hours via US-280 or I-20 East to I-85 South. On a game day Saturday, budget an extra hour.
How many people fit in the van?
Up to 10 passengers — nine guests plus your driver.
Can we drink on the way to Auburn?
Yes. That's most of the point of a chauffeured charter, and it's why nobody in your group has to volunteer to stay sober.
Does the driver wait through the game?
Yes. The driver stages nearby and picks you up at an agreed spot whenever you're ready — including after the Toomer's rolling.
What does an Auburn game day charter cost?
$200 per hour with a four-hour minimum. A full Auburn Saturday typically runs 12 to 14 hours depending on kickoff time.
How far ahead should we book?
Four to six weeks. Fall Saturdays compete with Alabama home games and wedding season, and there is only one van.
