Things to Do in Avondale Birmingham AL: Fall 2026 Guide
Birmingham, AL · Neighborhood Guide
Two music venues face each other across 41st Street South in Avondale, Birmingham, AL, and on a good night you can pick your show just by crossing the road.
That short block is the heart of Avondale, the neighborhood just east of downtown. Add a destination taproom, a barbecue counter that has served the block since 2012, a coffee shop with a serious roaster lineup and a 37-acre city park, and you have a full day without ever needing a second zip code. Here are the things to do in Avondale, with the real hours, addresses and show dates for the next few weeks. Check each venue's own page before you go, since calendars shift.
01 — The BlockThings to do in Avondale
Start on 41st Street South, where the two big stages stand directly across from each other.
Avondale Brewing Company
The brewery doubles as one of the city's best live-music rooms, with national touring acts on the outdoor lawn and smaller shows in The Upstairs. The calendar runs deep into winter: Thundercat plays the lawn on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr. is booked for Nov. 21 (sold out), and the Avondale Holiday Market takes over Saturday, Dec. 12 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Saturn
Saturn books something almost every night. Tonight, Friday, Oct. 23, Soup Activists and Canaries play for free. Tomorrow brings the all-ages La La Librarian Boo Bash for $18.70. Further out, Hayes Carll plays Nov. 6 ($33.50), Fruit Bats on Nov. 19 ($38.03) and Robyn Hitchcock on Nov. 21 ($32.86), all at prices listed on Saturn's calendar.
02 — The TaproomCahaba Brewing, east side
Cahaba Brewing Company
Cahaba's taproom is open Monday from 3 to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dogs on a leash and children are both welcome, which makes it the easy pick for a mixed group. The kitchen, The Current at Cahaba, serves Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
03 — Halloween WeekendThe spooky stretch
Avondale does Halloween loudly, and both stages are in on it.
Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, show by show
Friday: Avondale Brewing hosts its Rocky Horror Masquerade Ball from 6 to 10 p.m., with the show at 8:30, while Saturn runs Scare Your Face Off Fest XVI ($18.70, 18+). Saturday: All Get Out plays The Upstairs at 8 p.m., and Milk and Honey is at Saturn ($36, 18+). Sunday: Slap Dragon's all-ages Sunday Funday runs 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Avondale Brewing with free admission, and Saturn finishes the weekend with Alien Halloween ($20.50, 18+).
The calendar stays busy after the costumes come off. Saturn hosts a free Nathan Fielder trivia night on Wednesday, Nov. 4, then Sicard Hollow on Saturday, Nov. 7 ($29) and J Roddy Walston on Wednesday, Nov. 11 ($26.66 to $42.17). Over at Avondale Brewing, The Upstairs hosts Scattrbrain on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and the Taiwanese ukulele player Feng E on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Weeknight shows are an easy way to see the neighborhood without the weekend rush.
Avondale rewards the group that parks once and walks everywhere.
04 — Eat & SipWhere to eat
SAW's Soul Kitchen
SAW's opened here in 2012 in the old Quick & Split Cafe, and it still draws a line for smoked pulled pork, barbecue sandwiches and banana pudding. The menu also lists burgers and rotating specials. It sits steps from both stages, so lunch and a show can share one parking spot.
Miracle Pizza Co.
Miracle Pizza took over the former Post Office Pies space and keeps a New York-style menu. It's open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner here and a walk next door is about the easiest pre-show plan on the block.
Punch Love Coffee
The shop pours coffee from Proud Mary of Portland, Thankfully Coffee of Auburn and Junto Coffee of South Carolina, makes its own syrups and stocks pastries from Last Call Baking. Laptops aren't allowed on weekends, so bring a book or a friend.
05 — Green SpaceA walk in Avondale Park
Avondale Park, at 4101 5th Avenue South, is one of Birmingham's oldest and best-loved city parks. Locals describe a lake, walking trails, playgrounds and a stone amphitheater on its grounds, and it's free to enter. Walk a loop after lunch to reset before the evening shows. If you're coming from 41st Street South, it's a short stroll rather than a drive.

07 — Make It EffortlessSkip the designated driver
Avondale is built for groups, and a group means a designated driver or a pile of rideshares at last call. Our 2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter seats up to 10, books self-drive or with a chauffeur, and drops you at the door with nothing to park. Read the FAQ for how it works, or reserve your date for your own Avondale night.
